12 Days of Starlight #Givethegiftofadonation

I am sure everyone has heard of the Starlight Foundation, but you may not know exactly what they do. Starlight is a wonderful foundation that brightens the lives of seriously ill children and their families. Their mission is to bring joy, laughter, relief and a whole lot of smiles. Their large variety of in-hospital and outpatient programs help bring back some strength, hope and lost childhood by being that reliable and shining star in a dark and stormy sky. From toys to the latest technology to full-blown parties, they replace that fear and loneliness with fun and excitement! While out-of-hospital, they are granting wishes of all sizes with their Day Brightener Wishes, Great Escapes® Wishes and Once In A Lifetime Wishes programs to make sure Starlight families always have a reason to believe in magic.

one of the #12KidsofStarlight

Mia, a full of life 13-year-old, has a degenerative and chronic condition, cystic fibrosis (CF), which causes thicker, stickier mucus than usual to accumulate in many vital organs of the body. Despite having a fatal genetic disease with no cure, a strict daily medication schedule and an inability to
meet people with the same condition due to the risk of cross infection, Mia lives life to the fullest each day. Starlight Canada’s program help make the days a little brighter for Mia, like when she went to one of her favourite events, Drive 4 Smiles, and looped a race track in exotic cars with
professional drivers!

For Mia, the hardest part about being sick is the isolation. Since CF patients cannot be within 6 feet of each other, she struggles with the fact that she can’t form real friendships with the people who would understand her most. On top of that, her diagnosis causes many days to be spent in-hospital,
with only more to come, including an inevitable double lung transplant.
That’s why she wants to raise $2,500 to bring toys to hospitalized children across the country who aren’t lucky enough to be home for the holidays. She understands the feeling of isolation more than most, and she wants to help.

Mia is trying to raise over $2500 this holiday season for kids in-hospital this holiday season with @starlightcanada. For every $10 donation towards the campaign at 12kids.starlightcanada.org, your name will also be entered into a prize pool worth over $20,000 (1 prize is 2 Economy Class Air Canada tickets for any scheduled destination in North America, including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean!)

I am VERY proud to be the official ambassador of this extraordinary young girl with @starlightcanada and #12KidsofStarlight. PLEASE consider helping her reach her goal by donating and spreading the word. No donation amount is too small!

Happy Holidays

What’s Better than a Great Children’s Show? Great Toys that Match the Show! #LunaPetunia

Luna Petunia

Who watches Luna Petunia??? It’s probably one of the cutest kids shows on Netflix and the best part … there is a line of adorable Luna Petunia toys to go along with it. Here’s what a Babylish Advice tester had to say about the toy line:

Luna Petunia is my daughter’s favourite show on Netflix, so we were both super excited when we were chosen to review these great toys! In case you haven’t seen it, the premise of the show is a little girl (Luna Petunia) gets a magic toy box for her birthday, and it whisks her away to the land of Amazia, where she meets new friends and goes on awesome adventures. My daughter loves the show for the great characters and fun experiences and I love it for the creativity and imagination it brings out in her. I would recommend it for kids 3 and up.

The first item we received for review was the Fabulosa Cafe Playset. It’s a cute little set with a Luna doll, a cafe set up and a food launcher, just like on the show. My daughter really enjoyed the food launcher, but was disappointed that there wasn’t much food included to launch. Most of it was glued down and wasn’t playable. Also, the doll is so top heavy that it can’t stand on it’s own. Overall however, my daughter is getting a lot of play out of this toy and really enjoys playing cafe with it.

Luna Petunia

The second item was the Huggable Luna Petunia. This was an instant hit with my daughter. It’s a really good size and super cuddly, easy to drag around the house.  I was really impressed with the quality of this doll. She has curly hair that springs back when you tug it and feels really durable. Great for kids to take along on adventures in and out of the house.

All in all, if you’re child loves Luna Petunia, they will love these toys too. And if you haven’t watched it before, I totally recommend adding it on your to watch list. Your kids will thank you!

Unwind with Netflix #StreamTeam

From school to play dates, hockey practice, swim lessons, baseball practice and now to long days at camp, sitting back on a couch and unwinding with Netflix for a few minutes is a BIG must in my house.

I love nothing more than my kids running around out doors getting some exercise, but sometimes it is necessary to just have some down time where they can be one with the couch and reset their busy little minds and bodies. It sounds easier than it is because two little boys who have a lot of energy don’t always just want to sit down but when I say “popcorn and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” it usually is an easy draw to get them inside to mellow out.

Big news from Netflix: now your kids can be their own director and determine what adventures they want to see. With the new launch of Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, Netflix is introducing interactive ways to watch TV by putting the storytelling power in the hands of the most important audience member … your kid! Your child will be asked questions and they can choose the path to which the show goes (brilliant actually .. and so fun).

Now go show your kids and let them have the fun!

Happy almost long weekend

Get Cozy with Netflix – #StreamTeam

Officially I can say it feels like Fall! The temperatures have drastically dropped, you have retired your summer wardrobe and brought out all your favourite fleece slippers and most importantly, your cozy sweatpants.

Truly, what is better than getting home from work (or a full day’s worth of errands in some cases), slipping on those comfy sweats (or pj’s in my case) and a big, baggy sweatshirt, popping fresh popcorn with some sprinkled chocolates in it (to satisfy the sweet and salty of course) and sitting down on the couch with your kids to watch a movie or favourite television show. Ok so let’s be real, in my house it doesn’t quite go down like that since I have two very rambunctious boys who don’t sit for a mere second (well at least until 7:00pm), but when they do settle down and want to want to watch television, I truly thank G-d for Netflix. There is always one (or six or seven) shows on there that they both want to watch and then there is peace and quiet that comes over the room … ahhhhh SUCCESS!!!

The Only Car Seat you Will Ever Need! #MCDiono

It’s pretty crazy how many car seats I have purchased in the last 4 years. Why? Because every car seat comes with a weight restriction and as the kids get older, they graduate to the next one … at least that’s what I thought!

I am the type of person who does hours of research before buying products for my kids, but for some reason that time around I listened to those around me and bought on a whim what I thought was the right car seat. Fast forward a year later, my ‘once was’ little guy was hanging out of his car seat and basically bursting at the seams which didn’t make sense to me considering the weight limit was 35lbs and he was only 22lbs. Did I mention that carrying him in that car seat was like carrying a deadliest … sheesh! Onto the next car seat which I swear my son grew out of it in a minute and so what I had to buy the next stage car seat. I got to a point where I had to convince myself it was ok because my next child would use them.

A few years later, my next son was born and and that’s when I heard of the a convertible car seat, a seat that would take you from the newborn stage all the way up to the big kid stage … yes that’s right 1 car seat!!!!!!!! I honestly couldn’t believe that I hadn’t known about this when my older son was born and I could have kicked myself for listening to others and not doing my own research (you live and learn right!). It was as if the stars were aligned because I was offered the opportunity to try out the Diono Rainier Car Seat and I immediately went onto the computer to do some research and fell in love.

Why I love the Diono Rainier Car Seat:

– It’s the only car seat you will ever need
– weight: fits children rear facing starting from 5lbs-50lbs, forward facing 22lbs-65lbs, up to 57″ in a 5 point harness and then turns into a booster from 50lbs-120lbs
– I looked at the manual online and it looks fairly easy to adjust and install (my next post I will be testing that out myself)
– Space saving design allows for multiple car seats and/or additional passengers
- Folds flat for travelling
- Infant body support cushions and memory foam (why can’t they make driver seats like this!)
– Expandable sides
- The cover is machine washable (very important for me as we all encounter some form of child accident ie. throwing up, peeing or even a spilt drink)
– Has a cup holder (this is a must especially when the kids are older)
– Low-sitting profile for easier entrance and exit from car (if you have a small car you will appreciate this, so no more accidental head bumps … eek)
– Additional forward-facing recline position to accommodate different types of contoured vehicle seats
– 12-position adjustable headrest
-5 shoulder and 3 buckle positions (this was a HUGE issue with my last car seat, so I am thrilled to see this)
– Great colour options
– There are installation videos on their website
– Full steel frame and aluminum reinforced sides (the ultimate in safety)

As I am sure we can all agree, safety is our #1 concern when it comes to car seats considering they are holding our most precious cargo and I was extremely impressed with all the safety features. For starters, NCAP crash tested, it has a Safestop® energy-absorbing harness, energy absorbing EPS foam and side impact protection and extra deep side walls providing complete side impact protection for added safety.

My father once told me that once you have a child, you will never stop worrying about them and he was right, but the one thing you can stop worrying about is is safety when you have the Diono Rainier Car Seat.

Pampers Kandoo Products

kandoo hand soap

After Frankie got Hand Foot in Mouth (what feels like a million years ago), I have become quite neurotic and clean his hands a thousand times a day (along with mine). I think calling it a “struggle” to wash his hands is a total understatement until marketing took it’s toll and I bought Pampers Kandoo hand soap honestly because of the cute frog and colourful bottle they were in and well they were a brand name I knew and recognized and I figured why not try it out.

I put it on my hands first, showed him the fun green foamy colour (that smells sooooo good … watermelon) and he was intrigued and wanted some on his hands  … sometimes I think I am so smart 😉 Now, I sit him next to the sink, put the soap on both of our hands and well let me say there are a lot less tears.

Part of the Kandoo family are the flushable wipes for the potty trainers out there. We were sent those to try out, but we are not one of those YET … but crossing my fingers we will be headed down that road soon and that’s when we will be testing those out. They are moistened with lotion, so no irritation; cleans up to 30% better than toilet paper; they come in packs to bring with you on the go so your never stuck without wipes in those emergency situations (it doesn’t sound fun, but have seen friends in those emergencies)  and they are biodegradable so you can flush them down the toilet and they won’t hurt your septic tank.

NEW KANDOO! Meet the new Kandoo Clean Crew frogs and take the Oath to keep yourself super clean at http://www.pamperskandoo.com/Take-The-Oath.aspx.  They will be giving away 1000 Super Power Clean Kits each month! Look for the new and improved Kandoo Personal Care line, including Shampoo, Body Wash, and Hand Soap at most major retailers and online.

Other mom’s love the flushable toilet wipes, so these will now be included in the 12 month Mommiesfirst boxes

Thanks to our friends at Boogie Wipes and Pampers Kandoo (they have partnered up), they are giving away to one lucky Babylish Advice reader, 2 packs of 30-count wipes (fresh, grape, menthol, or unscented– combination varies), 1 pack of 42 count Kandoo wipes and 1 Kandoo Hand Sanitizer OR Kandoo Hand Soap. This contest is open to Canadian and US readers.

They definitely have my seal of approval!

Diapers Delivered to your Door!

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have diapers, wipes, toiletries even toys delivered right to your door??!!!! OH WAIT you can!!!

The one thing I can’t do is buy boxes of diapers at ridiculous prices when I know that Walmart (who claims they are always rolling back their prices – clearly I watch too much tv) and other stores have better and/or discounted prices and how many boxes of diapers do you go through a month?

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I would schlep out in the middle of snow storm or when I was beyond exhausted and drive half an hour to forty five minutes because I needed diapers and wipes and I was too stubborn to go around the corner to the pharmacy and pay full price! I had heard of a few companies that would deliver to your front door, but they were US companies and paying duties and brokerage and high shipping costs on that stuff didn’t really appeal to me. When I was at one of the baby shows, I saw a company called Well.ca there and they informed me that they have no minimum orders and free shipping – what more can a mom ask for J When I was online checking it out, I couldn’t believe the kind of stuff you can have delivered to your front door … toiletries and even DVDs – I had high hopes for them having Barney! Here’s a hint, sign up for the Baby Club and get discounted diaper prices.

Which brings me to my most recent delivery discovery – WALMART!!!! How I discovered this was actually a fluke (well now they advertise it I know). I was online desperately looking for a toy (shocking I know) and couldn’t find it anywhere. After about 45 minutes going through websites, I googled another term for this toy and Walmart came up. So me being me thinking “what are the odds they have it at Walmart in Toronto after all that searching” click on it and see they have the toy there and then it says “add to shopping cart” – thinking this is the US site, I check around and I am on the Canadian site and clicked order. It was a done deal and it was at my house within a few days. Oh the sheer excitement of finding this out (you do have to pay for shipping though).

Well there you have it, the little things in life that excite me! For the new mom’s and dad’s out there, this should make your lives just a little bit easier.
