Introducing the NEW Playtex Diaper Genie Elite

What’s worse than a smelly diaper … a smelly garbage full of diapers!!!! You know what I am talking about … in that case you either didn’t register for a diaper garbage system pre-baby and therefore thought it would be an ok idea to use your regular garbage until someone bought it off your registry (bad idea) or you have opened someone else’s garbage and caught a waft (my stomach just turned thinking about that .. ew).

Of course you have heard of the Diaper Genie … well now there is a new Diaper Genie in town, the Diaper Genie Elite which has some new, great features (yes this stuff excites me even though I am semi close to my little one being out of diapers).

Diaper Genie Elite

What I love about the Diaper Genie Elite
– There are colour options now HOORAY!!! Grey, Blue and Pink
– Bigger step peddle (it’s the little things that make me happy)
– Has a carbon filter holder built right into the lid (and comes with one carbon filter), if your wondering this absorbs the odour therefore helping to eliminate it
– The front bin now opens for easy garbage removal (no more moving the pail from the wall)
– Easy assembly
– Built in cutter now under the top portion of the diaper pail (less bending is what that means)
– Uses the same refills as the older version so you don’t have to worry about wasting your old one’s (it also comes with 1 refill)
– Reasonably priced at $35.97 CAD
– Now available on  and offered with Prime for those Prime members

The Diaper Genie Elite

I bow down to The Diaper Genie Elite helping every room smell good one diaper at a time!

Tiny Love Dual Motion Developmental Mobile

Tiny Love

It’s common practice that after you find out you are pregnant you register … easy right? WRONG! It’s overwhelming enough sharing your body with this little creature and not knowing what is going on in there, not to mention figuring out what you have to buy for him/her and which are the trusted brands. Sure, it would be easy if there was only one brand for every product, but clearly that is not the case.

Tiny Love is just one of those brands you just know, whether it be a friend who has one of their products in their house, a blogger you follow loves the brand or your older sibling has passed along their hand-me-down.

With my first born, I was super anxious about the transition from bassinet to crib as I didn’t want him to feel alone and neglected (I know you moms understand), so when he was about 3 months I started putting him in his crib for a short period of time daily, turned on his Tiny Love mobile and just let him watch in amazement. He would just lie there kicking his legs and wouldn’t take his eyes off the mobile watching it go around and around listing to soft music (I remember at one point it almost put me to sleep it was so calming). I continued this for a month and when it was time for the big transition, I actually felt at peace with my decision knowing that he was comfortable there and that he had his mobile to keep him company.

The newest Tiny Love mobile to hit the market is the Tiny Love Dual Motion Developmental Mobile and it’s amazing (kind of makes me want another baby … for a minute).

Tiny Love Dual Motion Developmental Mobile

What I Love about the Tiny Love Developmental Mobile
– It’s Tiny Love what’s not to love
– The first mobile to have a hide-and-seek function where the animals disappear (well to them they disappear) and as the mobile turns it magically appears again
– Has cute little animal characters
– Was soooo easy to put together
– 15 different melodies
– 40 minutes of music
– Music includes: nature, lullaby, white sound and reggae (I love living in the 21st century)
– Just when you think the baby is done with the mobile, take it off the crib remove the arm and put it on the floor for your little one to play piano with
– Has a soothing moon and star nightlight
– Volume buttons

The ‘Baby Care Basics’ – Enter to WIN!

Parenting is hard … plain and simple!
Whether you are about to have your first baby or your third, those early days (that can stretch into weeks and months!) of parenting are a whirlwind of emotions, sleepless nights and questions (a lot of questions). And while we all have come to expect unconditional love to happen and exhaustion to reign supreme, what can take many a new parent by surprise is the constant question – “Am I doing this right”.
While no one has the magic bullet to calm your fears of making the “wrong” decision, there are resources available that will help guide you through. One such book I highly recommend is Baby Care Basics by Dr. Jeremy Friedman and Dr. Natasha Saunders. Working full time at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto has given these two doctors the background and knowledge to write a comprehensive but easy to read (and understand!) book that covers topics new moms needs to know; from breast- and formula-feeding (with no judgement with which you choose), introducing solid food, treating your baby’s illnesses to sleep habits, playing with your baby and much more. Seriously, where was this book after I had my first!!!!
 Why is this book important?
    • Because, we all know despite all the planning in the world (and all the advice people will put upon you), nothing can quite prepare you for the big step from pregnancy to parenting.
    • Taking care of your baby is one of life’s biggest and most important challenges (challenge being the operative word here)
    • There is so much conflicting information available on the Internet, how can one be sure whom to trust?
    • Baby Care Basics replaces uncertainty with knowledge and insecurity with confidence
Containing a wealth of reliable information that will help parents make the right choices for their baby, The Baby Care Basics Book answers the questions every new parent has on a daily basis, providing practical, expert advice on everything you need to know from pregnancy through your baby’s first year.
Thank you to our wonderful friends, they are giving us 1 book to give away to 1 of our lucky readers!  The giveaway is open to both Canadian and US residents ! Here is how to enter:

A Pregnant Girl’s Winter Must-Have! #MakeMyBellyFit – Enter to WIN!

It is no secret that with pregnancy comes a new wardrobe (or you can borrow all your husbands clothes) and I was ok with it seeing as I was planning on having another kid therefore getting a lot of use out of it, but the one thing I refused to buy was a winter jacket. Do you know how expensive those things can be? Jeez you would think you were buying a Canada Goose or something for that price!

Lucky for me, my first time around I was only a few months pregnant during the winter season so I was able to get through with my regular jacket, but the second time around is when I ran into the problem of needing a winter coat and refusing to purchase a maternity winter coat coupled with my stubborn personality, I wore my regular jacket through winter and buttoned up the top portion and let my belly hang out (yup that’s right, I got to the point that I didn’t give a BLEEP who stared).

It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I noticed that my pregnant girlfriend was wearing her regular jacket, but had some sort of insert on it. I took a closer look at it and I couldn’t believe what a brilliant invention this was. In fact, I instantly looked up the company and wrote them just to tell them how wonderful their product was and was sad this product wasn’t around when I was pregnant. She told me that she gets stopped on the street all the time asking what the insert is … that good! Honestly, everyone who is pregnant during the winter months should have MakeMyBellyFit. My girlfriend loves hers, I love the idea of it so I wanted to write about it and share with the world (well those who read my blog) – it would be selfish of me if I didn’t!

Make My Belly Fit insert

What I love about MakeMyBellyFit
– You don’t need to spend $600 on a new jacket
– It is made in Canada
– It zips right into your regular jacket easily (some with an adapter and some without)
– Good quality zippers and soft shell material
– It has a fleece liner you can add on for extra warmth
– To make sure you are purchasing the right adapter, their website has a form to fill out where they will advise you of which one will work for your jacket
– Great for post baby as well, put it around your baby in their carrier to keep them extra warm
– Comes in a bunch of colours to match your coat
– Great (reasonable) price point
– Ships to the US

The Sunshine Vitamin #Ddrops – Enter to WIN!

Who here made a list of “what to buy before the baby comes” list? I sure did and I must have spent hours googling, reading blogs and speaking to friends with kids to make my obscenely massive list and among many things, a common product mentioned was Ddrops. I am not sure I truly knew the importance of Ddrops until I took my little guy to his first doctor’s appointment and his paediatrician recommended it as he was a breastfed baby and shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight which is where we get our vitamin D. Still to date (almost 4 years later) he is still getting one Ddrop a day (though he doesn’t realize it).

What I love about Ddrops:
– Most importantly, Ddrops gives my extremely picky eater his daily dose of vitamin D
– Comes in a tasteless, odourless drop as opposed to a chewable which probably would taste pretty bad and therefore I would never get him to eat it
– Has a long shelf life
– Comes in a patent Eurodropper which provides the exact daily dose per drop
– For those with kids with allergies, it is wheat-free, soya-free and gluten-free
– Comes in baby, toddler, booster, adult and vegan

Did you know?
– Pregnant women should receive 2000IU of vitamin D daily according to the Canadian Paediatric Society and Ddrops has the solution to that Adult Ddrop (1 drop is 1000IU)
– 70% of children are not getting enough vitamin D on a daily basis
– Vitamin D has been associated with normal development and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth
– You can find vitamin D in foods like:

Thanks to our friends at Ddrops, they are giving away 1 Ddrops kit (including baby, kids, booster and adult Ddrops + cloth bag, pen and coupons) to 1 lucky reader. The contest is open to CND and US residents. Here’s how to enter:

Baby Shower Game Ideas

Baby Shower Ideas

It seems like a lot of people are looking for baby shower ideas and today I am welcoming Stephanie from Spaceships and Laser Beams to Babylish Advice who is providing an article on games for a baby shower.

Is there a new baby on the way for someone dear to you? A baby shower is one of life’s sweetest celebrations! If you’ve never been hostess for a shower, you’ll find there’s a big difference between being a guest and creating the party. Is it work? Sure…fun work, though. Is it difficult? No, especially if you pre-plan and organize your to-do list. On my blog, Spaceships and Laser Beams, we specialize in parties for boys (and non-frilly girls!) so I see lots of parties and I have lots of ideas to help with yours.

Baby Shower Game Ideas

After planning your shower theme, decorations and menu, you’ll need to come up with party activities. Watching mama-to-be open gifts and noshing on the treats will be fun, but the most successful gatherings will include conversation starters, too. Here are a few baby shower game ideas to jump-start the girl talk:

  1. Just Like Grandma: Before the shower, gather pictures of mom and dad-to-be and their families (you might want to photo copy the pics, so no precious images are accidentally ruined). Include as many greats as possible as well as siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. In random order, number and mount them on a board. Have guests guess if the relatives belong to mom or dad. The most correct answers win.
  2. Toilet Paper Squares: This game is a good ice breaker, especially when people don’t know each other well. Pass around a roll of toilet paper and have each guest tear off as many sheets as they want. Don’t tell them why! When everyone has their squares, announce they must tell one thing about themselves for each square they have. You might have to give grace to those who take off a lot!
  3. Trash Can Toss: Tuck a bean bag or something similar into three disposable diapers. Blindfolded guests (it’s dark in the middle of the night!) must take turns tossing the diapers into a trash can that is several feet away. The most “baskets” win.
  4. Who Knows Mama the Best: Have a list of features (eyes, mouth, hair, feet, etc.) on a paper, with two columns; one says, “Mom” and the other, “Dad”. Guests must guess whose traits Mama hopes baby will have. New Mama can either give her answers after everyone has made her guesses, or she can fill out a sheet before the party begins. Of course, the most correct answers win.

What game would you love to play at a baby shower?

100% Natural Baby Care Line – Abundance Naturally Baby

Abundance Naturally Baby

I wanted to introduce you to Abundance Naturally Baby. It is not the smell that is the attractive feature of the product (it’s a plant based aroma for those that are curious), it is the fact that the line is 100% natural deriving all its contents from our environment which I know is important to a lot of parents. I truly love that this line was created by a mom who clearly understands what us moms are looking for in our baby products and this is evident as she breaks down how each ingredient helps soothe or heal.

Abundance Naturally Baby Balm:
I was never inlove with the idea of using Polysporin on my little man’s cuts or cortisone for his extreme dry skin and cradle cap and there now is an all natural solution. This balm helps soothe dry itchy skin, minor cuts, burns, cradle cap and has been proven to treat diaper rash. You will see below below in the ingredients why it is so healing.

It was very important to me to incorporate massage into our night time routine (and i’m not talking about mine and my husbands – I wish) especially with having a colicky baby and massage oil is a very important part because it helps calm the baby. A lot of oils are petroleum based but this oil is infused with sweet cherry and vitamin E

Abundance Naturally Baby Belly Butter:
A product just for me!!! With all the great healing properties in this belly butter, it is great for the expectant moms and their bellies and/or cracked nipples (ouch). I have been very lucky to not have stretch marks for either pregnancy (I don’t want to jinx myself since I do have 6 more weeks to go), but I have decided to put on this belly butter every night before bed as precaution .. it can’t hurt right! It actually relieves the itchy belly that comes with pregnancy!

Baby Proofing Your Car: Learn How to Keep Your Baby Safe While Driving

How to Baby Proof Your Car

When your first child comes, there is so much to think about when it comes to baby proofing your house. From outlet covers to baby gates, there are numerous ways to make sure your house is safe for little fingers to explore. However, have you considered baby proofing your car just as you would your home? If not, here are some ways you can help keep your little ones as safe on the road as they are in your home.

  • Install the car seat properly.  One of the best ways to protect your child is to make sure they are in the proper car seat for their height, weight and age. Also, make sure you have installed the car seat properly, whether it’s rear- or forward-facing, located in the middle of the back seat, or on one side or the other. All these factors can help keep your little ones safe.
  • Lock rear windows. You should prevent your child from opening up the rear windows — either halfway or entirely — so that it’s difficult (or impossible) for your child to throw things out of the car.
  • Turn on child-proof door locks. In most cars there is a button (often on the driver’s door or just within the back doors) that prevents children in the back seat from opening the rear doors from inside the car. This way, in order to let a kid out of the back seat, someone must open the door from outside the vehicle, so that a child cannot unlock and open a car door while the car is in motion.
  • Store all hazardous materials elsewhere. From car-washing supplies to a first aid kit that includes disinfectants and medicine, little fingers have a way of getting into everything. So whether you keep a safely locked box in your trunk to hold these materials or store them in your garage out of reach of little hands, it’s important that you prevent children from getting hold of these hazardous items.
  • Purchase extra safety precautions. While we like to think our kids know better than to ever hide or play in the trunk of the car, children don’t always follow the rules and accidents happen. Did you know you can have an emergency trunk safety release installed inside the trunk of your car just in case someone gets trapped inside? Contact your dealership to learn more information about this and other extra safety features.
  • Never leave children unattended in the car. Just like in your home, never leave your children alone inside the car for any amount of time. Just because you have child locks doesn’t mean your kids are safe inside of a vehicle by themselves. From heat stroke to hypothermia to the damage kids can cause to your interior, it is never a good idea to leave your children unsupervised.
  • Protect your family with car insurance. One of the best ways to protect your entire family while driving is to make sure you have the right car insurance. Each time you add a little passenger to your family you may want to increase the amount of coverage you have. Request a few car insurance quotes and log in to find the online car insuranceyou need today.

These are just a few ways to keep your little ones as safe on the road as they are at home. Keep your most precious cargo protected as you navigate through babyhood, toddlerhood and beyond.

GRAVITATE to Working Out

Let me start off by saying that I wasnt born with the “working out” gene! Infact, I despised the thought of working out until I had Frankie and even after then it took quite a bit of time for me to get my head wrapped around the idea of having to workout in order to lose the final pounds I had put on while pregnant.

I have been working out with a trainer for a little over a year now and as much as I love the push to have to go to workout, a girlfriend of mine told me I had to come with her to this studio called Gravitate to try a Gravity pilates class and I have to say I was pleasantly shocked how much I enjoyed the class considering I hate working out so much (hence why I needed a trainer). I have to say I am now truly addicted!!!! Can I tell you that I NEVER believed those people who said they were addicted to working out, it just didnt make sense to me … until now. The Kardashian’s (yes openly admitting I love watching their show) made pilates classes look easy, I dont even think they broke a sweat, but that is not the case, what a great full body workout and I am definitely feeling it today (3 days later).

That’s me in the middle
